Derby victory: Bolzano grabs 3 points against Innsbruck

Before the game against the “Sharks”, Bozen coach Kai Suikkanen slightly changed his attack lines: While Riley Brace formed the parade block with Brett Findlay and Alex Petan, Dan Catenacci was moved back to the second line. Defender Daniel Glira and attacker Viktor Schweitzer once again had to make do with a place on the substitutes' bench.

The almost 4.000 spectators in the ice wave saw a hesitant start from the HCB. A few minutes passed before Bozen got into the game and became dangerous for the first time. With the first real opportunity, the people of Bolzano took the lead: Campbell found Deluca, who was standing free in the slot, who only had to hold out the bat and make it 1-0. Afterwards, an open exchange of blows developed in which the HCB had more of the game, but top-class scoring opportunities largely failed to materialize.

Shortly before the first period break, Innsbruck managed a flattering equalizer: Bolzano goalkeeper Leland Irving wanted to clear an actually harmless puck to the side with his stick, but missed the target and had to watch in surprise as the ball rolled through his pads and into the goal to make it 1-1 .

MacKenzie turns the ice wave into a madhouse In the middle section, the HCB clearly set the tone and pushed Innsbruck far back into their own zone with numerous attacks. Bolzano's superiority was also reflected in the scoring chances: First, Andrew Crescenzi missed the possible lead twice, before Luca Frigo (from a distance) and Matti Kuparinen (in 1-on-1) also found their master in Innsbruck goalkeeper Luka Gracnar . Gracnar also excelled when he was deflected from a brace and parried brilliantly. Innsbruck's offensive, on the other hand, was rarely used - if things got tough in front of the HCB goal, Irving was always there.

Bolzano's lead, which had been in the air since the beginning of the second third, finally fell 4 minutes before the break: a dream combination via Alex Petan and Riley Brace was completed by the advanced defender Matt MacKenzie and, with a bit of luck, scored through Gracnar's braces to make it 2-1 .

The defense holds, Petan scores In the final section, the result didn't change much: Innsbruck threw everything forward, but they kept biting their teeth against the Bolzano defense or, at the very least, Leland Irving. Even when the guests took goalkeeper Gracnar off the ice for a sixth field player, the HCB goal remained bricked up.

Shortly before the siren, the extremely strong Alex Petan finally made everything clear: the Italian-Canadian hit the deserted Innsbruck goal with a freeing shot and finally brought the deserved Bozen derby victory to a dry place.

HCB Südtirol said goodbye to 2018 with a home win: On Sunday evening, the “Foxes” beat HC Innbruck 3-1 in the Tyrolean derby and thus consolidated their place in the top six of the table.
