The first penalties of the season bring Bozen luck

On November 7th, 2021, HC Bozen last won an ICE match after a penalty shootout. A little over a year later it was that time again: In the away game against Graz, the Foxes had to go into the penalty duel for the first time this season and nailed down the 2-1 win. This will also be the case for HC Pustertal, who celebrated a landslide victory on Sunday, happy: The Wolves are fighting with Graz for the coveted 10th place, which entitles them to the pre-playoffs.

It was clear from the way the Styrians played that there was a lot at stake for the 99ers on Sunday. They fought like lions, went wild in the duels and initially made HC Bozen really nervous, as eleven white and red penalty minutes (and a spectacular Mike Dalhuisen boxing match) in the first third prove.

The overtime was fast-paced but goalless, and so it went to a penalty shootout, where the HCB had the better end. Bolzano remains at the top of the table, but the lead over second-placed Salzburg has shrunk and is now only two points. The Red Bulls also played one fewer match. Bozen continues on Friday (19.45 p.m.) with the home game against Villach, while Pustertal faces Salzburg away on the same evening (19.15 p.m.).
