The Foxes stagger but don't fall

After the 4-0 win on Tuesday HC Bozen also scored full points in the second game after the Corona interruption and brought the Slovakian capital club to its knees 6:5. When it came to lively target shooting in the deserted ice wave, the Foxes were not able to convince in terms of wit and discipline, but they were superior to their opponents thanks to their individual class and a lot of passion.

The start was certainly not promising: In the 11th minute, Bratislava's Mitch Hults hit the mark with a powerful slapshot in the power play, and just two minutes later Roman Faith made it 2-0 from close range. The HCB was initially unrecognizable, acted extremely erratically and was prone to errors. It was only with Anton Bernard's goal that the tide turned. The captain directed a shot from Ben Youds into the net when he was in the majority. From then on, the Foxes were more confident with the puck and more determined. As soon as the game got really fast, Bratislava had little to counter it.

This became apparent at the beginning of the middle period, when HCB turned the result on its head within a minute: First Mike Halmo scored his longed-for first goal of the season with a rebound, then Daniel Frank gave a Di Perna shot the decisive change of direction. At all three Bolzano goals, Greg Ireland's handwriting was clearly demonstrated to the observer. Under his leadership, the Foxes always manage to put a striker in the firing lane and thus cause a lot of trouble in the slot. HCB cracks act way too hard However, this plus point can only partially conceal HC Bozen's current deficits. The White-Reds still lack fine-tuning in both parts of the team. This became clearly noticeable as the game progressed, as the legs became tired and the inaccuracies during long transitions increased significantly again. The result? Bratislava's remarkable equalizer half way through the game. Maxim Cajkovic shot the ball from an extremely acute angle into the far corner of the cross. At this point, Bozen was operating with one less man on the ice - a picture that was to be repeated again and again in the final period. Strong comeback: 3 goals in 3 minutes Angelo Miceli, Halmo, Stefano Giliati and Dennis Robertson worked far too hard and weakened the hosts with completely unnecessary penalties. Matt Finn and Michel Miklik took advantage of this and gave the Caps a 5-3 lead with two power play goals. As a result, the Foxes were shot, but by no means dead. They mobilized their reserves of strength again and fought back vehemently: with three goals within three minutes, they made up a two-goal deficit for the second time and now definitely paved the way to victory. The advanced Robertson, Dustin Gazley with the help of Bratislava goalkeeper Peter Hamerlik's leg pads and Nick Plastino with a low shot from the corner made it 6:5. The latter became the match winner because the HCB saved the result over time in the remaining four minutes.

Now the people of Bolzano have until Friday to recover from the two days of exertion before the next championship game in Linz. They are then free to play until November 26th.
