The Foxes are celebrating their start to the season

HC Bozen no longer acted as freely as it did on Friday 6:1 against Innsbruck , but with a passionate performance he also brought Dornbirn to its knees 3-2. The Bulldogs, coached by Bozen master coach Kai Suikkanen, demanded everything from the South Tyroleans, but in the end the class and willingness to sacrifice of the remaining 14 (!) field players in the HCB squad prevailed. It was only Bozen's sixth victory in its 18th appearance in the “Ländle”.

In addition to Leland Irving, Mike Halmo, Marco Insam, Brett Findlay, Ivan Deluca and Domenic Alberga, who were infected with Covid-19, HCB coach Greg Ireland also had to introduce new signing Ben Youds. Another sixth striker was missing from the squad, Stefano Giliati, who suffered a blow to his leg against Innsbruck. Ireland called defensive giant Dennis Di Perna into attack to complete three forward lines and rotated Gregorio Gios as the fifth defender.

The change in the line-up initially caused the Foxes a lot of trouble. But once they picked up speed, they were difficult to brake. In the 11th minute, Dustin Gazley fired a first warning shot, four minutes later Angelo Miceli hit the mark. The Italian-Canadian was there after a Tauferer shot and made it 1-0. Dornbirn then took the reins again and were promptly rewarded with Devin Brossseau's equalizer. The exceptional talent, who plays on loan from the Edmonton Oilers organization in Vorarlberg, made Justin Fazio look old from an acute angle. Gazley scores, Fazio closes in behind The Bozen team's regular backup otherwise cut an excellent figure that evening and repeatedly drove the Bulldogs to despair with his agility. He only had to admit defeat once more, namely when ex-HCB defender Matt MacKenzie lost out after being stabbed. That was at the beginning of the middle section. After that, it was Bolzano's turn again: Simon Pitschieler, who was once again convincing, missed a great chance halfway through the game, and three minutes later Dustin Gazley scored in a power play to make it 2-2. The former Salzburg player also impressed in his second game for the Foxes with his excellent stick handling and elegant style of play.

However, HC Bozen's winning goal was scored by an old friend: Dan Catenacci. The twelve-time NHL player tried a harmless shot from the slot in the 48th minute, but DEC goalie Östlund didn't catch it and instead let the puck slide through the pads and over the line. In the final phase, the home team threw everything forward again, but they were repeatedly failed by Fazio. The 23-year-old goalkeeper saved the decimated Bozen team's second win of the season and at the same time gave coach Greg Ireland an early birthday present.
