A Bolzano victory of passion

HC Bozen is approaching the top of the table in the ICE Hockey League! With a hard-fought 4:3 against the recently strong Vienna Capitals, the South Tyroleans are back on the road to success.

In addition to the long-term injured Diego Glück and Hannes Kasslatter, the HCB also had to call on the two top performers Mike Dalhuisen (injured) and Mike Halmo (suspended) in Vienna-Kagran. Although coach Greg Hanlon was only able to field three complete lines, he positioned his team perfectly for the opponent. Defender Ryan Culkin, captain Daniel Frank, who thrives in the first line of attack, Dustin Gazley (all two scorer points each) and winning goal scorer Angelo Miceli stood out from the collective that evening.

With these key players and a renewed, extremely passionate solidarity on the ice, the Foxes were able to put away three Vienna equalizers and finally achieve their sixth win from the last seven championship games. For the Capitals, James Sheppard wasn't enough to score in the ninth game in a row. The long-time NHL and DEL striker made a fantastic comeback (two goals) after a seven-week injury break. The Viennese can no longer counter Bozen's fourth opening goal. With this win, the Foxes move within two points of league leaders Innsbruck. On Wednesday, coach Greg Hanlon will give his protégés a day off from training before preparation begins for the third away game in a row, on Friday in Linz. HC Pustertal will not be back in the championship action until Saturday against the Vienna Capitals.

After the defeat against Fehérvár, the personnel-strapped HCB Südtirol Alperia was under pressure on Tuesday evening in Vienna. The Foxes have mastered this test of character impressively.
