A very special Tyrolean derby

For the first time in 10 years in the EBEL/ICE, the two teams are fighting for first place in the table. The North Tyroleans' season has been outstanding so far: the Haie are at the top of the table with 74 points. Bolzano, for its part, is the first pursuer of Innsbruck, 5 points behind and with a game less. Both teams have finished victorious in their last five games. The conditions for an exciting derby are there, especially when you take into account the offensive departments of the two opponents: Innsbruck is the league leader with 138 goals scored so far, which corresponds to an average of 4 goals per game. The Foxes, on the other hand, have the third best attack with 118 goals and an average of 3,6 goals per match. This is what Bolzano's captain Daniel Frank says: The difference between the two teams could be the defense: Bolzano has currently conceded 77 goals (second best defense in the league), while the Innsbruck goalies have already had to score 103 times (second worst of the top ten placed teams). The main people responsible for the Tyroleans' soaring are Brady Shaw and Adam Helewka: The American and the Canadian dominate the scorer list with 53 and 50 points respectively. The Austrians' power play is by far the best in the ICEHL with a success rate of 31,2%. At Bolzano, Mitch Hults leads the list of snipers with 36 points. Bolzano as a fearful opponent Bolzano and Innsbruck have already met twice this season, both times the Foxes had the upper hand: on September 30th in the Sparkasse Arena with a score of 5-1 and a month later the match in the TIWAG Arena ended with a goal from Culkin in extra time with a spectacular 5:6. After the injury in the game against Asiago, Bozen's Mike Dalhuisen underwent a detailed medical examination including an MRI on Wednesday, which gave the all-clear. The Dutchman will return to the ice as soon as possible. Terrance Amorosa, who made his debut in the Foxes jersey in the match against Villach, will play in his place. After the bitter defeat against the bottom of the table, Pioneers Vorarlberg, the important home game against the Graz 99ers is on the program on Friday evening.
