Foxes eat wolves: Bolzano is celebrating again

The 189th South Tyrolean ice hockey derby is history and with it an evening that leaves a lot of emotions in both fan camps - in a positive and negative sense. The majority of the almost 4000 spectators celebrated an outstanding performance by the Foxes, but 200 of them, namely those from the Puster Valley, had their disappointment literally written on their faces. Bolzano defeated Pustertal 4-1 in the Sparkasse Arena.

It was completely contrary to the course of the game that the Wolves were still pushing for a point at the beginning of the final third. The HCB had more before the game, combined well, played with a lot of hardness and seemed significantly hungrier than their arch-rivals in the crucial moments. At times it seemed as if the foxes really wanted to eat the wolves.

Due to Bolzano's lack of exploiting chances and the morale of the Bruneck team, who never gave up in this game either, it was only in the final phase that double goalscorer Dustin Gazley and Daniel Mantenuto, with his best performance in the HCB jersey, tied the game. Short & sweet: The highlights of the game Gazley's wake-up call The derby was dragging along until the sixth minute, then Gazley shook everyone awake. Halmo takes the counterattack, McClure shoots, Gazley scores with a follow-up shot - and there's a lot of fire under the roof! Bolzano's weak nerves The Foxes cannot cope with the emotions of the derby and allow themselves to be repeatedly indisciplined. Felicetti and Mantenuto sit in the penalty box at the same time for two minutes, and the Wolves can neither capitalize on this nor on the following power plays. Frank's cheer After wonderful preparatory work from Mantenuto, Frank just has to push in, child's play for the captain. The fan favorite, who runs despite a slight abdominal muscle strain, shouts his joy under the Bolzano fan curve. It's 2-0 (33'). Willcox's will As if out of nowhere it is there, the Bruneck goal: HCP defender Willcox heaves the puck into the net with a lot of fuss. The rubber literally hits with the third siren behind HCB goalie Harvey (40th). Gazley's reaction The HCB smothers the emerging tension in the 53rd minute: Dalhuisen pulls away from the blue line, the puck is deflected several times and finally deflected by HCP goalie Sholl to Gazley. For the second time this evening, he reacted quickly – 3:1. Mantenuto's decision The HCP pushes for another connection with six field players, but the puck ends up back in the guests' goal: Mantenuto rewards himself for an outstanding performance with the empty net goal to make it 4-1 (59th). While the HCB consolidated its second place in the table, Pustertal is still bottom of the line. The new Wolves coach Tomek Valtonen should draw the necessary conclusions from this defeat, knowing full well that the next tough challenge in the fight for playoff qualification awaits Villach on Thursday. Bolzano, on the other hand, is visiting Feldkirch the day before Christmas. The people of the capital may have already given themselves the best present with this derby victory.
