“Young Wild Ones” at the HCP: Squad planning is in full swing

With this decision, the sporting management of HC Pustertal would like to create the basis for the sustainable development of ice hockey in the Pustertal. “Especially for the young players in South Tyrol and Italy and in primis at HC Pustertal Junior, an incentive should be created so that the jump into the professional camp does not just remain a dream, but can become a reality,” it says on the club’s official homepage.

The “young wild ones” are offered playing opportunities through collaborations (e.g. farm team regulations) with Broncos Vipiteno (Alps HL), Brixen Falcons and Toblach Icebears (IHL / Serie B), but should be trained and trained under professional conditions. The young players should also benefit from the professional structure away from the ice: technical, video, athletic, goalie training and medical support are available. Depending on needs and situation, the sports management decides on the operating times. Two 21-year-old goalies There will be a backup “couple” in goal: Hannes Stoll (No. 33) and Jakob Rabanser (No. 1). Both goalies are 21 years old, have gained experience in the Alps Hockey League and form a “tandem” not only at the HCP, but also at the Broncos. Stoll should get playing minutes in the AHL, while Rabanser should also gain experience in the ICE.

Kevin Baumgartner (No. 16) takes the place of the “young wild” in defense. The 18-year-old has shown talent and strong will and has recently taken on responsibility in Brixen, which those responsible for the HCP and HCP Junior really liked.

Lukas De Lorenzo Meo (No. 47) and Yuri Cristellon (No. 25) have already played good roles in the Alps Hockey League in recent years. The right-handed shooter from Bruneck will only be 20 years old in September, but he already has 3 years of “Alps Hockey League” under his belt with 17 scorer points and is now set to take the next step in his development. The same applies to the 2001 vintage Cristellon. The technician is also expected to make the leap into professional ice hockey; he was particularly impressive with 2019 goals for the Wolves in 20/8.

The third striker in the group is Lenny Hasler (new No. 3). He will also be built up through assignments in Vipiteno and Brixen, but has already shown in the 29/2020 season at the HCP that he can (positively) surprise. Deluca comes to Bruneck But that's not all: another promising Italian player can fight his way into the “ICE Hockey League” with the Wolves. Stephan Deluca (No. 27) is 21 years old and comes from the Ticino Rockets (Swiss League, formerly NLB), where he scored 7 points last year. The striker, who comes from Fassa, has completed a total of 4 years of ice hockey training in Switzerland and, in addition to numerous Junior World Championships, has also had a taste of the Italian national team and the Champions Hockey League (with Biel).

Anticipation in the Pustertal President Erich Falkensteiner is happy about the concentrated load of youngsters: “We are proud to be able to rely on young, hungry wolves - many of whom have been trained by HCP Junior. They will have the chance to excel at a high level, but will also receive game practice in the farm teams. It is not without pride that we now have 8 genuine Puster players in the squad.”

HC Pustertal is looking forward to a whole “armada” of young players who want to take advantage of their chance to play in the ICE Hockey League and fight for a permanent place in the squad.
