Hangover mood on New Year's Day for the HCB

The HCB is looking for consistency: On New Year's Day, the Bolzano team suffered their third defeat from their last four games, losing to Dornbirn for the second time in six days. The 2-3 defeat on Tuesday was unnecessary and avoidable: Bolzano saw more of the game over the entire 60 minutes, shot eleven more times at the opponent's goal and was unlucky with two hits on the crossbar. Dornbirn, on the other hand, was more effective and secured a flattering victory.

In the table, the HCB is now in danger of losing sight of third place: Because Klagenfurt won in Villach, Bolzano is four points behind. The chance for compensation comes on Friday when the Foxes visit Innsbruck.

First Bozen turns the game, then Dornbirn Bozen started the game strongly in Dornbirn, took the reins in their hands in the first few minutes and was unlucky with a shot from the crossbar by Deluca. Contrary to how the game was going, the home team from Dornbirn took the lead: After a chaotic scene in front of the HCB goal, O'Donnell was there and pushed the target into the box. Bozen wasn't shocked and reacted promptly, but Frigo's shot landed on the corner crossbar.

But the equalizer was only postponed: 52 seconds had been played in the second third when the Bolzano team skilfully exploited a numerical advantage and got the deserved equalizer through Catenacci. As a result, the Foxes continued to press the accelerator and deservedly took the lead after 31 minutes: A power play for the Foxes had just ended when Petan completed a combination to make it 2-1. However, Dornbirn came back into the game as if out of nowhere: 126 seconds after Petan's goal, Pöschmann caused another stalemate.

In the final period the game was on a knife's edge before Connelly provided Dornbirn's lucky punch with a powerful shot. The Foxes then rebelled again, but robbed themselves of any chances with two unnecessary penalties.
