Ko in the final third: The Wolves are running out of breath

There was a 2:5 defeat against the Hungarians, which ended up being a bit too big. The Wolves once again offered a decent performance, but in some situations the difference to the experienced Hungarians was clearly visible. Pustertal will certainly need one or two games in order to be able to keep up with the much higher rhythm in the new league over 60 minutes.

Nevertheless, the Wolves are heading home after their first ICE weekend with three points and a lot of euphoria in their luggage. And also with the realization that you can keep up in the league. Before the Wolves ran out of steam against Fehervar in the final section - probably due to the strain of travel - they had 40 decent minutes. The Hungarians had more of the game, but Pustertal defended skillfully and was able to rely on its goalkeeper Tomas Sholl. The US boy, who didn't do the best in terms of goals against Bratislava, fended off 25 shots in the first two periods. He was not to blame for the four goals conceded (the fifth came via empty net).

There is still a need for action at the HCP in terms of defensive coordination, but one player in attack makes you want more: The 35-year-old Swede Johan Harju scored again and is therefore involved in all five Puster goals this season. He could make a strong duo with Brad Morrison - who is eagerly awaited in Bruneck but is not yet available. The HCP continues next Friday in Villach. HC Bozen, on the other hand, is in action on Sunday and will face Salzburg away at 16.30:XNUMX p.m. The highlights Fehervar seemed fresher in the opening minutes and kept putting the South Tyrolean guests in trouble with their high level of forechecking. The Wolves don't really get into the game and only have their first chances in the last few minutes. Third number 2 begins with a huge opportunity for Fehervar, but Erdely fails shortly after a numerical advantage due to Sholl, who reacts outstandingly. On the other side, birthday boy Anthony Bardaro has Puster's best chance, but goalie Daniel Kornakker remains the winner in a one-on-one. 36th minute – and the HCP equalizes. Although the Hungarians' 2-0 is in the air, the bell rings on the other side as Johan Harju makes it 1-1. His shot is decisively deflected by Fehervar defender Gleason Fournier. But the joy doesn't last long, because in the final third Fehervar pulls ahead with a double blow to make it 3-1: Istvan Terbocs, in the majority (and after a pass from Petan), and Kristof Retfalvi (his skate makes a decisive deflection) score within 34 seconds. Both goals are awarded after studying the video images. But there is no giving up for the HCP: In the first power play of the game, Shane Hanna promptly hits the mark – 2:3 (50th). But the Wolves left another outnumbered situation unused, and worse still: Joshua Atkinson grabbed the game equipment shortly before the penalty expired, sprinted away from everyone and made everything clear with the 4-2 (52nd).
