Capricious foxes succumb in the summit meeting

At the beginning of the season, Bozen impressed with a highly successful power play, but things have now turned for the worse. Both the build-up play and the combinations in the opponent's zone, which usually end in nothing, are inadequate. On Saturday, the Füchse offered the next taste of this and lost 0-1 against Fehervar due to a Hungarian shorthanded goal.

The game in the deserted ice wave, in which the recorded fan chants at least created a bit of atmosphere, began with both teams feeling each other out. They shied away from taking big risks and always sent the target deep. The events mostly took place in the gang, so it was rarely dangerous. Not even in the power play: the home team with the recovered but mostly unhappy Dan Catenacci had a lot of trouble in the power play, as did the guests from Hungary. As the third progressed, however, the Foxes put more pressure on Fehervar goalie Janus, who was able to defuse the first warning shots from Anthony Bardaro, Daniel Frank, Catenacci and Dylan Di Perna. Because Andreas Bernard was hardly challenged on the other side and the only danger was a wrist shot from ex-HCB player Colton Hargove, the score remained 0-0 at halftime.

The power play weakness continued in the second 20 minutes: technical errors and problems establishing themselves in the opponent's zone prevented any danger of scoring. Even more: When the Foxes ran into one of the many counterattacks in the 33rd minute, the guests did not undeservedly take the lead. Assists Donat Szita and Istvan Bartalis finished a textbook 2-on-1. Bernard couldn't do anything with the precise shot under the crossbar. Apart from that, Fehervar limited himself largely to defending around the inconspicuous Alex Petan. The result: Bozen found it extremely difficult to generate a goal threat. Janus hexes Fehervar to victory However, that evening was not only due to their own inability, but also to the bravura of the new league leaders. He closed the spaces cleverly, kept Bozen out of the slot, always countered dangerously and could also rely on an outstanding Janus. In short: Fehervar played a perfect away game. Thanks to this, Tim Campbell & Co. secured three points and replaced Bozen at the top of the table. Because Catenacci hit the crossbar two minutes before the end, and Brett Findlay and Marco Insam also had 15% chances, but the equalizer didn't work - the rebellion came too late. The Foxes lost a game to zero for the first time since December 2019, 0, when the HCB lost 3-XNUMX to the Vienna Capitals.
