Ljubljana wins the newcomer duel

The omens before the game were not good for both teams: HCP coach Luciano Basile had to do without Brad Morrison, Dante Hannoun and Michael Caruso. At Ljubljana, the injury list was even longer, with the absence of goalkeeper Wade Murphy particularly notable. Despite the many injuries, the green dragons once again delivered a strong performance and defeated the HCP, who were not completely convincing that evening, 5:3.

At first everything went smoothly: The Wolves capitalized on the first opportunity and were able to rely on goalkeeper Tomas Sholl again. At some point the pressure became too much. Basile's troops lacked the last bit of aggression and their legs didn't move well, like last time against Dornbirn. Even with hard work, Emil Kristensen & Co. were unable to stop the furious hosts. The reaction in the last third, when the HCP rebelled again, came too late.

The Slovenians once again proved that second place in the table is not a coincidence. Technically adept, tactically clever and strong as skaters, they can put any opponent in trouble. There is no time for the Wolves to mourn this defeat; the home game against EC KAC (18 p.m.) is already on Sunday in Bruneck. HC Bozen also suffered a defeat against HC Innsbruck on Friday.

The highlights Although there is almost only one team playing at the start, namely the one in green, the visitors score 1-0: Jasse icons shoots from a distance and defeats Zan Us, whose view is cleverly blocked. Tomas Sholl then saved his team from equalizing, but it fell shortly after the half-time tea. Sebastien Piché flicks the puck precisely into the net on the power play. The Slovenians remain in command, have the better chances and take the lead thanks to Ales Music: his shot bounces off the goal post onto Sholl's pad and from there into the goal. Instead of an HCP reaction, the score is 3-1: assists Guillaume Leclerc and Tadej Cimzar play a textbook two-on-one situation to the end - 3-1 after 40 minutes. The final third begins with Kristensen's goal, which hits Us over the saver. Ivan Deluca then has a great chance to make it 3-3, but the goal falls to Jaka Sodja on the other side. The Wolves don't think about giving up: Thanks to Johan Harju's precise shot from the slot, there is hope again, but it is dashed by Zan Jezovsek's empty-net goal. In the duel between last year's AlpsHL competitors, HC Pustertal and Olimpija Ljubljana fought a game on Friday that could have been decided after just 20 minutes, but remained exciting until the end and was ultimately won by the green dragons.
