Next slap: HCB goes under in Klagenfurt

HCB coach Kai Suikkanen had to make do in the Klagenfurt town hall without defender Matt MacKenzie (hit in the face) and center Andrew Crescenzi (back problems). In defense, the sick Tim Campbell returned to the ice, while in attack Ivan Deluca moved to the third line and Viktor Schweitzer, together with captain Anton Bernard and Daniel Frank, formed the “South Tyrolean block”. Massimo Carozza remained on the bench as the 13th striker for the time being.

Disastrous starting third Bozen showed no reaction 48 hours after the listless home performance against Znojmo and was played against the wall by the KAC from the start. The home team disrupted things early on and rarely gave the HCB room to breathe. Klagenfurt rewarded itself for the first time after just 98 seconds: Mitch Wahl was not attacked in the attacking third and thanked him with a shot into the top corner to make it 1-0. A little later, the Carinthians struck again: Mario Richter, outnumbered, grabbed the puck and completed a 2-vs-1 counterattack to make it 2-0.

Even after the 2-0 win, the KAC boss remained in the house. The toothless HCB did not attack at all and conceded the next goal after a good quarter of an hour: Nick Petersen made Markus Nordlund look old in the face-off circle and scored into the short cross corner to make it 3-0. With this goal, Leland Irving's working day ended prematurely - Bozen's regular goalkeeper had to vacate the space between the posts for substitute Jake Smith. Just a few minutes later, Smith was also beaten for the first time: Thomas Hundertpfund was cleared perfectly in the majority and increased the lead to 4-0 with a well-placed shot from the slot.

KAC clarified, Bolzano harmless After the eventful first 20 minutes, the encounter became more and more flat as the game progressed. The KAC managed their clear lead confidently and continued to be the more active and dangerous team. Bolzano, on the other hand, was never able to really build up pressure in the second third and was without a compelling chance for a long time. Only Luca Frigo found a top-class player, but his shot from a tight angle was canceled out by the barely tested KAC goalkeeper Haugen.

The final third didn't give the game a decisive turn either. The KAC played the last few minutes down coolly and even had a few chances to increase their lead even further. – only HCB keeper Jake Smith prevented anything worse from happening. The late Bolzano consolation goal by Matti Kuparinen in the majority was ultimately nothing more than a cosmetic result.

After the third league defeat in a row, the HCB had to overtake the KAC in the table and is now in third place. Things won't get any easier for Bolzano in the coming days: the next “big chunk” awaits on Tuesday with the away game in Vienna.

Week to forget for HCB Südtirol Alperia: On Sunday evening the “Foxes” lost 1:4 away to the KAC and suffered their fourth defeat within seven days. The decisive factor for the third league defeat in a row was an indisputable opening third from Bolzano.
