Next defeat: HCB desperately needs the break

The upcoming break is just right for HC Bozen, because the Caps once again mercilessly exposed all of the Foxes' weak points in the 4-1 win in the Eiswelle, their 500th regular-season win in the EBEL. It wasn't just the worst power play in the league that bothered the White-Reds that evening, but also unnecessary penalties and lack of concentration in their own defense. Team unity and a clear flow of the game were only visible at times. HCB coach Clayton Beddoes now has a week to turn the right screws in order to overcome these deficiencies with a view to the next away games in Linz and Innsbruck.

The Foxes, who brought in trained defender Kevin Spinozzi up front for the suspended Domenic Alberga, found their way into the game much better than in most of the previous games of the season. The home team showed a quick reaction and equalized just three minutes later: Sebastien Sylvestre completed a wonderful relay of pucks over Brett Flemming and Dan Catenacci to make it 1-1.

If Bolzano was unlucky when they conceded their first goal, Fortuna, the goddess of luck, turned permanently away from the Foxes, who had already been struggling this season, from the middle of the game. In the 31st minute, three HCB cracks moved towards the Vienna goal, but the referees let the fans' screams catch their breath by interrupting the game and sending Anthony Bardaro to the penalty box for four minutes because of a high stick. Seconds later, Alex Wall made it 1:2 with a rebound. Big holes now opened up in the defense of Beddoes' troops, which were promptly filled by the agile Caps strikers. In the 33rd minute, Ty Loney, who was completely alone, scored from the slot to make it 3-1. Vienna wins for the first time in the distance As a result, the hosts repeatedly allowed themselves to be sent to the penalty box by the petty referees and thus stood in the way of a successful comeback. Vienna now only did what was necessary, but still managed to increase the result further. Ten minutes before the end, Riley Holzapfel made it 4-1 unhindered on the power play. It sealed the Capitals' second home defeat in Bolzano and their first away win of the current season. Next defeat: HCB desperately needs the break

Hanging heads at HCB Südtirol Alperia: The Foxes bravely stood up to the favored Vienna Capitals in the ice wave on Friday evening, but still clearly lost out in the end. They have no games on Sunday and could therefore be pushed to the bottom of the table at the end of this weekend.
