New rules: Small revolution in the Champions League

The Champions Hockey League (CHL) is introducing three new rules with the start of the coming season on August 31st. The changes affect how two-minute penalties are handled, the hockey league announced Thursday.

Starting next season, the two-minute penalty will not end after a goal is conceded by the team playing with a minority, but must be served for the full time - like the previous five-minute penalty. However, if a team scores a goal when they are outnumbered, the penalty ends and the team can continue playing.

If a penalty is called, but the team that receives a power play still has possession of the target and scores a goal, the penalty must still be taken. Previously, if a goal was scored during a delayed penalty, the two-minute penalty expired.

“We have introduced three simple but effective changes that have great potential to add additional excitement to the game,” explained CHL Managing Director Martin Baumann. “All three changes are not disruptive and are very easy to understand for everyone,” said Baumann.

HC Bozen is also in the Champions Hockey League and is ranked overall six top European clubs meet.
