Defeat in Innsbruck: Foxes look for consistency

With a clear 5-2 win against Linz on Friday evening, HCB Südtirol Alperia returned to winning ways after two recent defeats. But the Foxes didn't last long there: On Sunday they had to admit defeat 2-2 after a penalty shootout in an exciting, eventful and, not least, emotionally charged Tyrolean derby against Innsbruck.

Cold shower – but then the HCB turns on The game started with a cold shower for the HCB: Less than 2 minutes had been played before former Bolzano player Joel Broda was there to help with a poke and pushed the puck over the line to make it 1-0 for Innsbruck. The Foxes were briefly shocked by this goal, while the Haie dominated the game and restricted the Bolzano team in their third. It was only after around 10 minutes that the Talferstadt team broke free of their grip and made offensive pinpricks, one of which led to success: Innsbruck's Paulweber lost the puck in his own third, Marchetti grabbed the puck and fed Frigo, who confidently scored.

A goal that gave the HCB an enormous boost. At the beginning of the second third, the Foxes set the tone and created several chances. Finally, it was Sylvestre who got the puck when a penalty was called against HCI and sank it into the goal in a remarkable way - 2:1 (27th). As a result, an exciting and heated exchange of blows developed on the ice, in which Pedevilla from Innsbruck and Hargrove from Bolzano even came to blows. Innsbruck with better nerves Innsbruck finally managed to equalize in the final third: with one more man on the ice, Irving made two brilliant saves before captain Spurgeon put the goal in the net on his third attempt. In a final phase marked by many penalties, Catenacci in particular was left with bad luck at the end - he missed several opportunities.

Because nothing happened in either regular time or extra time, the game went to a penalty shootout. And there Innsbruck had better nerves and grabbed the extra point.
