Pustertal Weeks of Truth: “We play with fire”

On February 26th, almost a month to the day, HC Pustertal will play its last game of the regular season against Olimpija Ljubljana. By then it will be clear whether it was enough to achieve the minimum goal, i.e. the pre-playoffs, or not.

The situation for the wolves is currently not rosy, but it is also not hopeless. At the moment, the Tomek Valtonen troop is in 11th place and therefore one place “below the line”. 10th place, which qualifies for the pre-playoffs, is one point away, and 9th place is four points away. However, Graz (10th place) and Asiago (9th) played one and two fewer games respectively.

“We know that we are playing with fire because we have dropped a lot of points in the last few weeks. But the pre-playoffs are still clearly our goal,” explains defender Daniel Glira SportNews . The assistant captain also clearly states where the problem is currently at HCP. “We know very well that we have big problems scoring goals. We can always keep the games balanced and don't concede many goals. Everyone in the team knows that there is a problem when it comes to evaluating opportunities and we are working on that every day.”

The achievements as an encouragement However, no one in Bruneck buries their head in the sand – on the contrary. “It may sound stupid, but if you take the games individually, you can see that we were often the better team. We played well in the derby against Bolzano, but lost (0:3, editor's note), and also against Salzburg (1:2). Sure, there were games like against Asiago (1:2) and Vorarlberg (1:2) where we carelessly dropped points. The final step is simply missing to take the meters home.” “You can also tell in the stadium that people are not happy.” Daniel Glira Overall, it has been a “difficult season for the whole club so far,” explains Glira. “The expectations were certainly different, we didn't think we would have such a hard time. There are still eight games left for HC Pustertal. Eight matches, each of which is a small final. The first “final” takes place on Sunday at 17.30:XNUMX p.m. in Linz. In any case, Daniel Glira is convinced: “We’ll make it to the pre-playoffs!”
