Revenge failed: HCP lost again to Innsbruck

Both teams started the game similarly strong. In the first few minutes there were chances on both sides, but they were easily defused by the two goalies. After five minutes, Dante Hannoun had to go into the cooler for two minutes. The Wolves were able to skillfully fend off the guests' power play, but the Sharks still took control of the game from that moment on. The HCP now concentrated primarily on defense and tried to prevent Innsbruck's quick passes in front of their own goal. Coach Luciano Basile's players managed this very well. In return, the league newcomers repeatedly had a few chances through quick counterattacks. In the 14th minute, Reece Willcox shot from the blue line, the puck deflected dangerously in front of the goal, but Rene Swette in the guests' goal was able to parry the shot with his right leg pad. After this dangerous attempt, the HCP became more active again and was able to create the next good chance through Ivan Althuber just two minutes later. Three seconds before the end of the first period, the North Tyroleans lost the puck in the middle third and Jasseikonen ran towards Swette alone. In a one-on-one match, the Finn lost out to the Swede and shot the puck over the goal. Power play decides In the second third, the HCP started much more offensively and was able to create good chances straight away. In the 21st and 24th minutes, one of the guests' players had to go into the cooler and the Wolves had the majority for the first time. While chances remained scarce in the first power play, things became much more dangerous on the second attempt. Daniel Glira and Armin Hofer had good opportunities to put the hosts in the lead, but both missed. The post also helped the Innsbruck team not to fall behind. Shortly after the end of the second power play, Jakob Stukel ran towards the goal alone, but was unable to get the puck behind the line. In the 29th minute, Matthias Mantinger had to go to the penalty box for two minutes. The guests now did better and took a 1-0 lead through Michael Huntebrinker: Alex Dostie shot from the right side, Tomas Sholl parried, but the puck came right onto the American's shovel and he had no trouble pushing it in. A few seconds later, Nico Feldner appeared dangerously in front of Sholl's goal, but he missed the goal and so the score remained 0-1. In the 32nd minute,ikonen had the golden chance to make it 1-1, but he missed and shot over Swette's box. Afterwards, both teams had individual opportunities to change the score - but it remained 0-1. Swette is closing In the final part of the game, the HCP took control of the game. Innsbruck wanted to maintain the result and repeatedly tried to become dangerous through counterattacks. In the 42nd minute, Simon Berger had a good opportunity, but he shot wide of the goal. In the 48th minute, Tommaso Traversa had to go to the penalty box and although the guests now had one more man on the ice, the Wolves had two chances to equalize. First, Icons gave away, a little later Shane Hanna. Shortly before the end of the penalty time, Lattner had the golden opportunity to give the North Tyroleans a 0-2 lead. Afterwards, the HCP couldn't create many more opportunities and in the 51st minute Paulweber missed the empty goal after a two-on-one. In the 55th minute the hosts had another good opportunity, but the puck just didn't want to get behind the line. 45 seconds before the end, Sholl made room for a sixth man, but even the extra player and another penalty against Innsbruck seven seconds before the end did not change the result. The HCP also lost the second leg against the Haie. Revenge failed: HCP lost again to Innsbruck

The second leg between HC Pustertal and the Innsbrucker Haien took place on Sunday. After the 2-1 defeat in Innsbruck, the Wolves also had to admit defeat 0-1 in Bruneck and are still waiting for their first win against a direct league competitor.
