Victory in Salzburg: The HCB continues to fight for group victory

The clash between the Bulls and the Foxes was historic. It was the first meeting between two ICE teams at international level. In the end, the HCB was able to prevail 5:3 and thus keeps the race for group victory open. Both teams now have 12 points and will fight for first place in Group H next Tuesday in the Bolzano Eiswelle. Whoever wins this game will be in the first pot in the draw for the round of 1.

Salzburg, which had previously won all four games this CHL season, had to do without numerous players on Tuesday evening. In addition to the already known missing personnel Jean-Philippe Lamoureux, Lukas Schreier and Ty Loney, Alexander Pallestrang, Dominique Heinrich and captain Thomas Raffl also joined them. In Bolzano, however, captain Anton Bernard was missing.

The Foxes found it difficult to get into the game in the early stages. In the first 10 minutes, Salzburg clearly set the tone. But after Mathew Maione's equalizer the tide turned. Led by an outstanding Brett Findlay, the Talferstädter team (they were the more effective team) celebrated a deserved away win - even if things got tight again in the end and events came to a head. Four goals were scored in the last 5 minutes. By the way: things went really well on the ice. For example, Mike Halmo and Salzburg's Peter Hochkofler had a wild boxing match in the final third and had to go to the dressing room.

The highlights of the game Salzburg dominated the initial phase at will. But the Bulls keep failing because of HCB goalie Kevin Boyle. In the 11th minute, the home team took the lead: Teerence James Brennan shot from a distance while in the majority and Peter Hochkofler steered the puck into the goal. That's what you call effectiveness: just 4 minutes later, Bolzano equalizes. After an assist from Diego Glück, Mathew Maione outwits Salzburg keeper Nicolas Wieser with a backhander. The HCB is now getting stronger and uses its superiority shortly before the first third siren: After a shot from Dustin Gazley, Brett Findlay converts the rebound to take the lead 2-1. Findlay strikes again towards the middle of the second third: after a pass from Gazley, the HCB top scorer is in the right place and takes the 2-3 lead. A strange goal for the HCB. The otherwise extremely strong Boyle is not yet ready after a face-off. Peter Schneider made it 2:3 relatively easily. Gazley has the right answer. He decides the game with an empty net hit. But Salzburg comes close again. Danjo Leonhardt converts the rebound after a Schneider shot to make it 3:4. But now the game has finally been decided. This time Dominic Alberga hits the empty goal to make the final score 5:3.
