Tauferer comeback without a happy ending

Because 120 days after his last game, Ivan Tauferer made his long-awaited comeback. The Rittner last laced up his skates for the HCB on October 10th - since then he has been out due to injury. Now the 26-year-old is back in time for the pick round. He took Nick Plastino's place on Sunday. The other change in the lineup involved Simon Pitschieler, who was given another chance and replaced Domenic Alberga.

The duel between the best defense (Bozen) and the weakest offense (Linz) certainly had its charm. On the one hand, this was due to the brave Black Wings, and on the other hand, it was due to the Foxes, who realized that it was actually about nothing, as the first round victory was already in their pocket. These two factors led to a lively game that remained exciting until the end and was won by Linz 3-2. Paul Mocher, the regular number 3 in the Linz goal, made a big mistake behind his goal and played a perfect pass to Stefano Gilaiti, who effortlessly slotted into the empty goal (9th). A bitter moment for the 21-year-old, as he had made strong saves up to that point.

At least this goal didn't matter too much: just two turns of the pointer later, Brian Lebler beat the lethargic Ben Youds and gave Justin Fazio no chance with a powerful shot into the top corner - the score was 1-1 at the break.

While the Foxes still had the scepter firmly in their hands in the first half of the game, this changed in the middle third. Now the hosts took command, but they were unable to convert their field advantages into a goal. Instead, being outnumbered, they recently fell behind. Anthony Bardaro, who had hit the edge of the goal in the first third, flicked the hard rubber into the net with his perfect shooting technique (30th). Up to this point, Ireland had not conceded a single penalty. This changed suddenly when Youds and Gleason Fournier had to take their places in the penalty box within a minute. With a double majority, Linz didn't hesitate for long and punished the guests' indiscipline with a nice combination that Marco Brucker finished from close range (39'). Lebler is the man of the game This result was deserved given the proportions of the game. Although the technical difference between the teams became apparent, the Linz team made up for this deficit with a great willingness to run and hard physical play. And they could rely on their best player - even if Goddess Fortuna played a big role in the 3-2 win. A shot bounced off Lebler's skate and passed the powerless Fazio for the third time (45th). Spurred on by the deficit, the Foxes threw everything forward. However, Karl Stollery only hit the post, while Findlay and Gazley lacked their usual cold-blooded finish. So Bolzano suffered an unexpected, albeit bearable, defeat.
