Goal festival and brother duel: HCB loses in Villach

Two days after the 2:5 defeat against HC Innsbruck Doug Mason's team wanted to show their true colors. Above all, however, the listlessness that has often been shown recently should give way to an irrepressible will. The game against table latecomers Villach came at just the right time, one could assume. However, the Foxes only partially implemented their good intentions and lost a spectacular game 5:6 after extra time.

In Villach, the focus was not only on the brothers duel between Andreas and Anton Bernard, but also, to a certain extent, on the reunion with the former HCB cracks Joel Broda and Brett Flemming. While Bernard blossomed in the Eagles' goal in front of his parents' eyes and impressed with spectacular saves, Broda and Flemming remained pale. Otherwise, Rob Daum's men impressed with their fighting spirit. At the same time, however, they revealed major weaknesses in defense and showed why they are only in eleventh place in the table.

For the white and red, Brett Findlay and Dustin Gazley once again took on the main roles, although they still didn't fulfill their full potential. Gradually the guests wake up and score the next goal through Findlay, who is spot on in the power play after a Plastino finish. In the HCB's best phase, Villach responded with a rebound hit, which only came about because Boyle let it bounce forward. Before the second period break, Gazley lets the Foxes bench celebrate again with a wrist shot from the slot. In the completely crazy final third, the fans experience a roller coaster ride of emotions: Villach scores 4:2 and later 5:3, but the Foxes always come back.
