Despite defeat: This Puster ice hockey evening is historic

A yellow dress on the outside, a real jewel box on the inside with steep stands, an atmospheric fan curve, a state-of-the-art video cube and highly polished ice - Puster ice hockey hearts, what more could you want? The 1085 lucky fans who were able to get a ticket for the first home game in the new Wolves' Den, which actually has a capacity of 3100 spectators, must have felt something like this. Only the result in the end wasn't quite right.

HC Pustertal had to admit defeat to EC Red Bull Salzburg 3:4 after extra time. Since the yellow and black home team were never behind until the guests' sudden death goal, there was no joy in the end about winning one point against the championship favorites from Salzburg.

The Wolves, who had Ivan Deluca and Ivan Alhtuber in their squad for the first time, were particularly strong in the early stages when they took an early lead with two power-play goals. After that, the weakened Salzburgers were better, although Pustertal repeatedly made targeted needle pricks and earned the one point as a minimum reward for a courageous performance. Meanwhile, at Salzburg, triple goalscorer Terrence Brennan became the celebrated match winner with his overtime goal.

While Pustertal lost 3:4 after extra time HC Bozen won on Friday evening with the same result in Linz. The highlights of the game The game was less than 4 minutes old when the historic first goal in the new arena was scored: Jakob Stukel entered the history books with a power play goal. In the 7th minute the HCP scored again with one more man on the ice. The young Nicolas Wieser in the Salzburg Gate cuts a very bad figure against a harmless blueliner from Emil Kristensen. As the game progresses, Salzburg becomes more and more dominant and pushes for a goal, especially in the second half. HCP goalie Tomas Sholl and his front men close the gap at the back. At the beginning of the final third, the Bulls reward themselves for their field superiority with a quick double strike. Terrence Brennan is the goalscorer both times. First he scores with a one-timer, then with a beautiful shot. Stephan Deluca really makes the Intercable Arena shake for the first time! The 21-year-old striker lifts the puck into the top corner with a backhand. HC Pustertal takes the lead again. Salzburg equalizes again: Peter Schneider sends both teams into overtime with a powerful shot from the left faceoff circle. Terrence Brennan, who else? The US boy, who was still active in Switzerland last season, scored Salzburg to an overtime victory in the 64th minute. The final score is 4:3.
