Villach becomes a fox snack: 1st place and CHL are fixed

Villach was no indicator for HC Bozen in the penultimate game of the regular season. From the start, the Carinthians had no chance against the South Tyroleans, who played freely, and struggled for 60 minutes. In the end, Bolzano won 5-0. It is therefore clear that the HCB will start the pick round, which begins on February 13th, with four extra points. The Foxes will also be allowed to take part in the Champions Hockey League in the fall – provided the next edition does not fall victim to the coronavirus again.

Bolzano was superior to Villach in every respect. The guests tried to defend themselves, but the Foxes were unimpressed and were also very focused. After Dan Catenacci was defeated by Alexander Schmidt (2nd), Stefano Giliati gave the home team the lead after outstanding preparatory work from Angelo Miceli (12th). The HCB remained in command and Matteo Pietroniro hit the post in the power play. In general, Gazley was the best man on the ice. The Canadian center repeatedly showed his undisputed class, including a double chance from Brett Findlay and Karl Stollery in the middle third. Luca Frigo had previously scored HCB's third goal with a long-range shot, although goalie Schmidt didn't look good (25'). When Miceli made it 4-0 before the last third break, the match was over. The final third was a showcase for the Bolzano cracks, with Gazley scoring after an assist from Frigo to make the final score 5-0 (48').

In a relaxed and casual manner, HCB Südtirol Alperia was crowned the winner of the basic round of the ICE Hockey League on Friday evening in the Eiswelle. The Foxes also secured their ticket to the Champions Hockey League with a shut-out home win against Villach.
