Wolves only partially reward themselves for good performance

Only the ten best teams in the ICE Hockey League are allowed to continue the season after the end of the basic round. HC Pustertal is currently under the ominous line - and is therefore forced to win the upcoming games. This venture almost succeeded on Sunday when Simon Berger & Co. played on equal terms at the EC KAC, but ultimately lost 3:4 after a penalty shootout. Before the derby on Tuesday against HC Bozen, the Wolves are stronger than they have been for a long time.

HCP coach Tomek Valtonen had to change the attack lines against the record champions because Filip Ahl was unavailable. Among other things, he placed Daniel Catenacci as a wing alongside Johan Harju and Anthony Bardaro. The adjustments obviously bore fruit, as the Wolves posed significantly more of a goal-scoring threat going forward than before. Given the chances, they would have deserved more than three goals. The Valtonen system is also bearing fruit in its own zone - even if not everything that glitters is gold.

In this entertaining game, the two goalies, Tomas Sholl and Sebastian Dahm, became the protagonists. With their nimble style, they defused several chances in a spectacular way. It's not for nothing that the American and the Dane are among the best goalies in the entire league. In the direct duel in the penalty shootout, Dahm won - but only because the Red Jackets, in contrast to the Wolves, showed extremely good attempts.
