Half a century of ice hockey: Erwin Kostner has had enough

Erwin Kostner, the father of figure skating star Carolina and Ritten captain Simon Kostner, was active in local ice hockey for 50 years. Now the coaching guru has apparently drawn a line in the sand.

His current employer, HC Valdifiemme, announced on Tuesday the end of the Val Gardena native's coaching position in Cavalese. He had been behind the gang there for two years.

Kostner is said to have expressed to the club management his wish to slow down in the future and no longer want to dedicate himself to the fastest team sport in the world to this extent.

Kostner was dedicated to ice hockey for half a century - in the 70s, first as a national player in Val Gardena, Meran, Ritten and Bozen, later as a coach in the second and third leagues in Switzerland, at Val Gardena, Pustertal, Fassa and most recently just Fiemme. At the age of 65, he is now saying goodbye to competitive sports.
