The final spurt begins in the A2 series

HC Eppan Sarah

Eppan wants to successfully defend third place with four laps to go. Not an easy undertaking, because the teams from Meran and Kaltern are just waiting for the Überetscher to make a misstep so that they can overtake them. The Pirates recently celebrated an important home win against HC Gherdeina. On Friday, bottom team EV Bozen 84 will be visiting the Pirates and on Sunday they will face HC Meran in a direct duel. Coach Jarno Mensonen will still have to do without Patrick Wallenberg, Alex Rottensteiner and Luca Sartore.

SV Kaltern Rothoblaas

After three defeats in a row, the Hechte returned to winning ways against Pergine last Sunday. Third place is within reach, but the team's primary goal is to finish the regular season as best as possible. “We are very satisfied with the team’s performance. Maybe we missed a few points, but that doesn't matter. We are a young team that needs to play and gain experience. That is our club’s recipe for success. This season our young talents have spent numerous minutes on the ice. We are proud of this because we are finally taking a step forward. We are now playing in four lines and everyone should have the chance to mature through play. The playoffs will be hard work, but we are not afraid of anyone,” explains the person in charge of the first team, Werner Ambach. Two difficult games await the Kalterer team this weekend: on Friday they play in front of their home crowd against Vipiteno and on Sunday they travel to Neumarkt. Daniel Spinell and Thomas Waldthaler are returning to the ice, while the deployment of Markus Kofler and Alex Tauferer is up in the air.

HC Neumarkt Riwega

Coach Teppo Kivelä's team doesn't need much to secure second place and thus a ticket to take part in the “Lega Cup/Coppa di Lega”. The winner of the cup will then be in first place in the semi-finals and will have home advantage if they make it to the final. In order to achieve this, the Unterlanders would have to collect at least three points this weekend. After two wins in a row, the Wild Geese want to realize their goal as quickly as possible and win their third match in a row. On Friday they have to compete against Meran in the distance, but on Sunday they invite Kaltern to dance. The Kivelä squad continues to have to work without Matteo Peiti, Paolo Bustreo and Daniele Delladio.

HC Gherdeina

The Ladins are still in the race for third place. But the team's main goal is to get stronger, especially with a view to the playoffs. Despite the defeat against Eppan on Sunday, the Val Gardena team will tackle the coming weekend with a lot of self-confidence. On Friday the red-blues will cross the bats with Pergine, two days later they will host EV Bozen 84. Aaron Pitschieler will return to the ice after his suspension on Friday, while Ryan Gaucher (suspended) will be in the stands this weekend.

HC Meran Pircher

On Sunday in Sterzing, HC Meran's winning streak (seven wins in a row) that has been going on since January 11th was stopped. Nevertheless, Doug McKay's boys don't give up and still want to catch up with the Eppan team, who are in third place in the table with a lead of just two points. The Adler will host Neumarkt on Friday, while the direct duel against Eppan is on the program on Sunday. Coach McKay can make the most of this weekend as defender Viktor Wallin has resumed training after recovering from the flu and will be in the game on Friday evening.

Hockey Pergine Sapiens

Even though the play-off train has already left for them, the Lynxes want to give their all again in the last four games. That's why the Trentino team will try to score a “threesome” this weekend on the 39th and 40th matchdays in the second highest Italian ice hockey league. On Friday they start their first attempt against HC Gherdeina, on Sunday they go to the away game in Vipiteno.

EV Bolzano 84 Groupon

The people of Bolzano suffered a 6-0 defeat against Neumarkt on Sunday and are hoping to make amends next matchday in order to forget the disappointing evening in the Würth Arena. On Friday Battisti and Co. will meet Eppan in the Eiswelle, and on the 40th matchday the Talferstadt team will be in action in Val Gardena. Coach Fred Carroll just has to call Daniele Da Ponte.

WSV Vipiteno Weihenstephan

The Vipiteno team has slowly reached its goal of finishing the regular season in first place. Mathematically speaking, one win in the next four games is enough for Oly Hicks' team. The Broncos have won ten of their last eleven games. This makes them without a doubt the team of the moment. The Wipptal team can also calculate their chances of promotion to Serie A. On Friday Sterzing travels to Kaltern, on Sunday Pergine comes to the Weihenstephan Arena. Stefan Ramoser and Daniel Erlacher still have to pass.

This weekend, the 2th and 39th matchdays of the regular season are on the agenda in Serie A40. A win would be enough for Vipiteno to secure first place. The same applies to Neumarkt to secure second place. However, several teams are fighting for third place.
