Insam, Gander and Frank extend their time at HCB

Marco Insam will be in his seventh year in Bolzano in the 2016/17 season. The striker is an extremely useful player who is hard to replace, especially in the power play with his hard-hitting shots. The 27-year-old's other strengths include defense and positional play thanks to his robust stature (1,88m x 92kg). It's not for nothing that coach Tom Pokel also uses him in defense when the man is in need. Insam started his career in Milan and came to the Foxes in South Tyrol after two seasons overseas. With the HCB he won an Italian championship, an Italian Supercup and an EBEL.

“I am pleased to be playing my seventh season in Bolzano,” said Insam, “and that there are several friendly games on the program for the preseason. I am sure that this year, like every year, we will have a competitive team. There are a lot of free cracks on the player market and one or two top players will definitely come to us. As far as I'm concerned, I've already been in dry training for two months and after the tasks with the national team I'll come to Bolzano in top shape in August." Mark Gander Another player from the '89 guard is Markus Gander, who will start the fourth season with the HCB. Gander started his ice hockey career in Vipiteno, joined the Foxes in the last year of Serie A and was confirmed for the EBEL. The 27-year-old is a fast and strong player who also has a good shot. He won an Italian Supercup and an EBEL with the Foxes and will try to lead the team to success in the coming season with his good skating skills and commitment. “Here in Bolzano we are a great team and - what is very important - we talk not only on the pitch but also outside. I hope that we will get to the final again this year, which we would have achieved last season if we had overcome the Linz hurdle. The team is important for success. Last season we were a close-knit unit and proved several times that we are a strong team. My personal goal is to continue to improve, to score more goals and, above all, to be more calm in front of the goal and, why not, to be successful in the power play too.”

Daniel frank Daniel Frank is one of the best young players in South Tyrol. The 22-year-old striker is playing his fourth season in Bolzano this year and has matured from a “reserve player” to a regular player, especially in the last year. In the past season, Frank was regularly used in the fourth line, played with full commitment at every change and quickly won the hearts of the Bolzano audience. The striker also scored his first EBEL goal last season and scored three times in total. Coach Tom Pokel expects the player to improve further this year. “This year I want to win a regular place in the team and not continue to be a young talent,” says Frank and adds: “The team should be able to fully count on me in every situation. I want to continue to improve and gain even more trust from Tom Pokel. My goal is to become an irreplaceable player in the team over the next few years, like the '89 generation is at the moment. Maybe I can also win a spot on the special teams.”

After captain Alexander Egger, three other local players have extended their contracts with HCB Südtirol Alperia for the new season: Marco Insam, Markus Gander and Daniel Frank will also play for the Foxes next season.
