150 days before the World Cup: Beddoes remains national coach

“Remaining first in the World Group for more than a decade has shown that we are on the right track. That's why we're focusing on continuity," says association president Andrea Gios, who proclaims two clear goals: "We want to survive at the World Cup in Switzerland and at the same time focus on the 1 Olympics. The home tournament is a unique opportunity for our sport.”

The coaching staff stays together The ice sports association is tackling these projects in collaboration with Clayton Beddoes. The contract of the 49-year-old Canadian, who also looks after HC Bozen as head coach, was extended, as was that of his entire team of employees. This includes former Ritten coach Riku-Petteri Lehtonen (currently at Rødovre in Denmark), Cortina coach Giorgio De Bettin and video coach Diego Scandella (assistant at NLB club Sierre). The association did not provide any information about the exact term of the new working papers. Swiss “Nati” comes into the ice wave The coaching staff and Stefan Zisser, who is responsible for the Italian national teams, have already drawn up a detailed preparation plan for the 2020 World Cup. The final training camp begins on April 13th and includes two friendly matches against South Korea (April 19th and 21st). This will be followed by a real treat for South Tyrolean ice hockey fans when the star-studded World Cup host Switzerland visits the Bolzano Eiswelle on April 21st. Just one day later, the return match takes place at Resega in Lugano.

Before the Blue Team starts the World Cup against the USA in Zurich on May 9th, there is one last friendly match against Denmark. This is scheduled for May 5th, the venue is still open.
