Big bang: Alex Petan dropped from the national team

The coaching staff has sorted out two players (for now). Goalie Alex Caffi (Feldkirch/Alps Hockey League) and ex-HCB player Alex Petan are no longer part of the squad that is going to the World Cup.

“For sporting reasons, the coaching staff has decided not to use Alex Caffi and Alex Petan for the time being. However, both remain on the long list and can be called up again in the future,” the association said in a statement.

What is particularly surprising is the retirement of Alex Petan: the Italian-Canadian has been one of the players in the EBEL team at HC Bozen for the last two years, and his move to the DEL to the Iserlohn Roosters was recently announced. In February, Petan took part in the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge with the “Azzurri”.

Italy's national team will play two friendly matches against Slovenia in Bled on Wednesday (19 p.m.) and Thursday (17 p.m.).
