“Azzurri” suffer expected heavy defeat

The “Azzurri” suffered the expected and not really surprising defeat on Sunday in the second game of the Ice Hockey A World Championship in Bratislava.

For a long time it seemed as if Italy could at least somewhat limit the defeat against the heavy favorites from Sweden; after two thirds the defending champions, who started the tournament with a 2:5 defeat against the Czech Republic, were only leading by 2 :0. In the end, the result on the scoreboard was still 8-0 for Sweden.

De Filippo is holding strong Already in the first third, the eleven-time world champion showed who was the boss of the house. The Swedes created chance after chance and took the lead 2.10-1 after just 0:28 minutes through Anton Lander. As a result, Italy's goalie Marco De Filippo Roia was able to distinguish himself several times. The XNUMX-year-old, who is in the Cortina box, kept what he had to keep. A similar picture in the second half. The Swedes are on the trigger, De Filippo Roia's case is under constant fire. While Sweden recorded 23 shots on goal and had well over 70 percent possession of the puck, the “Azzurri” hardly ever threatened the goal of Swedish star goalie Henrik Lundqvist from the New York Rangers and only had two shots on goal. However, the Swedish goals didn't want to fall in the second half either.

After 25.25 minutes, Patric Hornqvist scored in the power play (Bolzano's Anthony Bardaro had to go into the cooler) after a rebound to make it 2-0. In the final third all the dams broke. The Swedes began to use their chances more callously and ended the game with a shooting celebration befitting their status. Oskar Lindblom (41.57) increased the score to 3-0 in the power play, and less than a minute later Marcus Kruger scored to make it 4-0. Even when they were outnumbered, only the Swedes played, Lander scored on the Azzurri's power play to make it 5-0. William Nylander, Lander again and Hornqvist increased the score to 8:0. Before that, Austria suffered a 0-5 defeat against Russia in Group B (SportNews reported) . On the last matchday (May 20th) there could be a final between Italy and Austria to stay in the league.
