Azzurri fight their way to victory against Poland

Andreas Bernard & Co. won the last three matches against the Eastern Europeans - and this time too they went into the game as slight favorites. However, the Poles had their own crowd behind them in Gdansk and boosted their self-confidence on Friday with their 3-2 win against Japan.

As expected, the game started very evenly. There were chances on both sides, but no goals were scored until the first siren. In the second half, the guests took over the scepter and created scoring opportunities every minute. However, the brilliant John Murray in the Poland goal and the inaccuracy in the Azzurri's finishing prevented them from taking the lead. On the other hand, Andreas Bernard had a quieter day at work compared to the game against Hungary, where he excelled time and time again - the score was 0-0 after 40 minutes.

Pietroniro redeems Italy It finally took until the 49th minute before the spell was broken: Tommaso Traversa won a face-off in the power play, Phil Pietroniro picked up the goal and took advantage of the chaos in the Polish defense to make it 1-0 with a well-placed wrist shot. The hosts then pushed for an equalizer and tried to score without a goalkeeper in the final minute. With a little luck and an outstanding Bernard, the Azzurri saved their narrow lead over time. Luca Frigo made it 2-0 with an empty net goal in the last second.
