Bitter end to the World Cup: Italy is relegated

Now it's official: Italy has to leave the elite class of international ice hockey after four years. The Azzurri lost 2-5 in the relegation showdown against bottom team Kazakhstan.

The Asians, who only had KHL players, showed a confident, calm performance in the final to stay in the league. Italy, on the other hand, was behind for almost the entire game, playing patchy at the back and far too harmless at the front. They only fired at the opponent's goal 15 times - far too few to secure participation in the A World Cup next year.

Bitter end to the World Cup: Italy is relegated

Italy's national ice hockey team will play second-rate in the future. The Blue Team suffered their seventh defeat in their seventh game in Helsinki on Monday and are relegated as bottom of the table.
