Italy's national ice hockey team has passed the first test of preparation for the World Cup. The Azzurri brought Austria to its knees 2-0 in Bruneck on Wednesday and showed a strength that should help them gain direct promotion back to the top division.

Allowing few goals is the be-all and end-all in ice hockey - especially if your own offense doesn't have a lot of penetration. The Italian national team notoriously struggles to score goals and therefore has to pay even more attention to defense.
