The national teams are on ice

Already in October, the Italian ice hockey association FISG all international matches and meetings of the national teams – i.e. both in the senior and youth sectors – canceled. This stop will now be extended. As the FISG announced in a press release, there will be no training camps throughout February. “In the corona pandemic, athletes have to move very carefully so that the risk of infection is kept as low as possible,” explains President Andrea Gios. That's why it was decided to put all activities of the national teams in the senior, women's and youth sectors on hold for the time being. Only the World Cup in the top division increases Because of Corona, the international ice hockey association also canceled all tournaments with Italian participation. There is only one exception: the senior national team will take part in the top division World Cup at the end of May and beginning of June, which will be held according to the current state of affairs. “Organizing a training camp at such a time would cause too many problems,” explains Stefan Zisser, the sporting director of the national teams, who also made it clear: “The regular and smooth running of the championships is currently taking place after the numerous interruptions in recent years “It’s just a priority for months.”
