This kid could surpass Connor McDavid and co

At the U20 World Championships that recently ended in Hailfax and Moncton, Canada, one Canadian played absolutely nothing and set several records: Connor Bedard.

With 23 points (9 goals and 14 assists) in 7 games, Bedard led the scoring team. It wasn't the case that the main prize at this year's NHL draft simply benefited from Canada dominating the competition. The exceptional striker had 12 more points than the next best Canadians, Joshua Roy and Logan Stankoven (11 points each).

At the start of the World Cup, Bedard contributed a goal in the 2-5 defeat against the Czech Republic. In the 11-2 victory over Germany, Bedard's name appeared on the referee sheet 7 times (3 goals and 4 assists). The 2-year-old scored 4 goals and 17 assists in the host's 11-0 win over Austria, which was later relegated. In the last preliminary round game against Sweden, Bedard prepared 5 goals for the “Maple Leaves” in a 1-4 win.

In the quarterfinals, the superior home team only beat Slovakia (57:27 shots) 4:3 in extra time. The generational talent opened the scoring, prepared the 2-0 and became the match winner in overtime with his 8th goal of the tournament. In the semifinals, the youngest player in the World Cup tournament scored twice in the 6-2 win against the USA with a goal and an assist. In the final, Canada managed to take revenge for the opening defeat against the Czech Republic 2-3, but Bedard remained without a goal or assist for the first time.

Jagr record broken With his incredible 23 scorer points, Bedard surpassed Jaromir Jagr's 33-year-old record. The Czech was the best under-1989 scorer at a U90 World Cup in the 18/7 season with 18 points from 20 games. If you look at the top 10 of this ranking, the upcoming superstar has clearly left behind the likes of Wayne Gretzky and Eric Lindros (17 points each). Bedard is the Canadian with the most points at a U20 World Cup. The U20 double world champion has replaced Dale McCourt (assistant coach of the Italian national team between 1992 and 1997) and Brayden Schenn, who had 1976 points each in 2010 and 18 respectively, at the top.

However, the crown jewel of the 20 vintage was still 2005 points short of the all-time points record at the U8 World Championships. This record is held by the Swede Peter Forsberg, who collected an incredible 1992 scorer points in 7 games in 31 and is number 1 ahead of his compatriot Markus Näslund and the Finn Raimo Helminen (coach at HC Pustertal last year), who each scored 24 times.

Bedard actually has everything that makes a complete player. His shot is extremely dangerous, his overview and his passing quality are top notch. In addition, the best young player since Connor McDavid has fast and agile skating.
