Italy celebrates at the start of the World Cup in Ritten

The Azzurrine won the neighborhood duel against Austria 1-0 in extra time thanks to Manuela Heidenberger's golden goal.

The duel between Italy and Austria was competitive, every puck was fought for and neither team wanted to allow a goal. That's what happened, because the goalkeepers on both sides - Magdalena Luggin in the Austrians' box and Margherita Ostoni in the hosts' box - were in great shape. The Italians had the best chance until the second break: in the 26th minute, Boaglio had just returned to the ice from the penalty box when the puck slipped past her. Alone in front of Luggin, she only hit the crossbar with her backhand.

Even in the final third no winner wanted to be determined. There were chances on both sides, but both teams lacked the final bite and the luck needed to win. The best example was the last minute, when Austria's Artner hit the crossbar with a powerful long-range shot (59'). It went into overtime and it took just over three minutes of three-on-three before Italy scored the decisive goal. Of all people, the local hero from Ritten, Manuela Heidenberger, got the puck and remained ice cold alone in front of Luggin (63.09).

Germany and France with opening victory Both Germany and France had previously won their opening games against Norway and Hungary. The German team took the lead at the end of the first third through Schaffrath (19.07), then increased it to 2-0 in the middle third thanks to a nice individual move from Rose (29.16) and didn't let Grini score again - this time it was the Norwegians on the power play – upset (32.40). Del Monte made the final score 3-1 (36.26) before the end of the second period.

Hungary and France had a particularly exciting encounter, in which the Hungarians took the lead in the second third thanks to a Mozolai win (25.20). But France never gave up and were rewarded for it in a heated final phase. First Zilliox equalized in the power play with a sharp long-range shot (57.37), then Origlio overturned the result 15 seconds before the end (59.45). The referees checked for minutes whether the puck slipped over the line during their somewhat controversial goal - in the end it was given and France was able to celebrate a victory.

The next three games continue on Tuesday. In the first match of the second day of the tournament, Germany and Hungary meet (13 p.m.), followed by the game between France and Austria (16.30:20 p.m.). The Azzurrine compete again in the last game of the day: at XNUMX p.m. they face Norway.
