Canada defeated hosts Slovakia

Hosts Slovakia and Canada had a thrilling exchange of blows in the evening game. The Canadians twice overcame a two-goal deficit and won with a last-second power play goal from Mark Stone. Slovakia was ahead 2-0 (8th) and 4-2 (26th), fell behind 4-5 (37th) and seemed to get at least one point after Matus Sukel equalized (52nd).

Sweden with a mandatory victory The evening game in the Ondrej Nepela Arena was one-sided. Defending champion Sweden made short work of Norway. William Nylander opened the scoring after 39 seconds, and after two thirds the world champion was leading 8-0.

In the afternoon games, World Cup favorite Russia defeated the Czech Republic 3-0, while the USA inflicted Finland's first tournament defeat with 3-2 nV.

Canada defeated hosts Slovakia

The four medal contenders Sweden, Russia, Canada and the USA celebrated victories at the Ice Hockey World Championships in Slovakia on Monday.
