Hard-fought win against Latvia: Canada in the World Cup final

Record world champions Canada are in the World Cup final for the seventh time since 2015.

The 27-time title holder had to do hard work in the semi-final on Saturday in the 4:2 (0:1, 1:1, 3:0) against co-hosts and outsiders Latvia. In front of 8669 mostly Latvian fans in Tampere, Finland, Canada only found a solution against the passionately fighting outsiders in the final third. The last goal fell into an empty Latvian goal.

By reaching the semi-finals, Latvia had already achieved the small country's greatest ice hockey success ever. The 6000 Latvian spectators came from Riga to Finland on numerous special flights after the 3-1 win against Sweden in the quarter-finals and are expected to ensure a home atmosphere in the game for third place on Sunday (14.20:XNUMX p.m.).

Canada, on the other hand, can be crowned the sole record champion again in the final (19.20:27 p.m.). Both the Canadians and Russia, which is currently excluded from the World Championships, currently have XNUMX titles.

The USA and Germany face each other in the second semi-final this Saturday. The game starts at 17.20:XNUMX p.m.
