Tournament victory: Azzurri celebrate in Budapest

Inspired by the first win directed by Mike Keenan against Slovenia The Azzurri entered the ice rink in Budapest with their heads held high. An exciting and promising game followed, in which France managed a spectacular comeback and forced the game into extra time. In the end it was Enrico Miglioranzi who sank the decisive penalty and let Italy celebrate.

Anyone who was stuck in a traffic jam during this final game and arrived five minutes late saw a 2-0 win for Italy on the scoreboard at the start. Because against France the Azzurri started like fire engines. Pascal Brunner, together with Marco Sanna, made it 1-0 with a strong wrist shot (3rd) and Phil Pietroniro went one better shortly afterwards in the power play (5th). The shocked French needed a while to fight their way back into the game, but Adel Koudri (17') reduced the gap to 1:2. Dylan Di Perna restored the old goal difference to 3-1 just seconds later. It was an absolute firework display in the first third.

France coach Philippe Bozon reacted to his team's bumpy first half and changed his goalkeepers. Quentin Papillon made way for Julian Junca. This step had an effect, as the Azzurri's opponents came out of the locker room with significantly more momentum and reduced the lead to one goal through Tomas Simonsen to make it 2:3 (26th). Substitute keeper Junca also cut a much better figure than his compatriot and defused any efforts from Mantenuto and Co. The second third belonged to France.

France forces extra time The French comeback was then completed in the course of the third period by Dylan Fabre, who beat Davide Fadani in the Azzurri goal for the third time today. However, even in overtime there was no winner and the game was decided in a penalty shootout. After several attempts by both teams, including an absolute highlight goal by Pascal Brunner, it was Enrico Miglioranzi who sank the decisive penalty and gave Italy victory in the “Memorial Sarközy Tamas” tournament.
