McDavid ennobles Draisaitl after his record

With a dry direct shot into the bottom right corner, Leon Draisaitl secured the next milestone in his career. Germany's Athlete of the Year 2020 has been the best German scorer in the history of the NHL as of Monday evening (local time). The 25-year-old from Cologne collected a total of two points in his Edmonton Oilers' 6-1 win against the Winnipeg Jets, overtaking the previous record holder, Germany's former national coach Marco Sturm, as the most dangerous German attacker in the best ice hockey league in the world. “We had some great players from Germany and topping that list is special for me. I’m proud of it and it’s a great honor,” said Draisaitl. He now has a total of 468 points in the main round in 488 games. Sturm collected 487 scorer points in his successful career, but needed twice as many games to do so. Draisaitl's main round points are spread over 191 goals and 297 assists. In the playoffs, both scored 22 points each. The speed with which Draisaitl took over the record also commanded great respect from his strike partner Connor McDavid. “To realize that he is already the best German scorer in this league at such a young age is something pretty special,” said the Canadian, who had an even better evening with three goals and an assist. “Leon is obviously a very respected player in this league and widely recognized as one of the best players in the world,” McDavid said.
