NHL releases schedule for new season

The season starts on October 12th with the duel between Stanley Cup winners Tampa Bay Lightning and the Pittsburgh Penguins. On that day, the expansion team Seattle Kraken will face the second youngest franchise, the Vegas Golden Knights, founded in 2017, in their first regular NHL game. The league returns to a normal season with a regular season with 82 games per team and the old divisional division. The NHL shortened the season that had just ended to 56 regular season games due to the corona pandemic and put together four new regional divisions that remained within themselves. Now every team will play at least twice against every other team in the league. Olympic question open The season is scheduled to include two outdoor games. The Minnesota Wild will face the St. Louis Blues on New Year's Day 2022. The game, postponed by a year, will be played at Target Field, home of the Major League Baseball club Minnesota Twins. On February 26th, the Nashville Predators will play against the Tampa Bay Lightning at the stadium of the NFL club Tennessee Titans. The All-Star Weekend, which was canceled in the preseason, is scheduled to take place on February 4th and 5th in Las Vegas. If the league sends its players to the Olympic Games in Beijing, the NHL would then pause until February 22nd. The league's agreement with the players' union and the world association is still pending.
