Austrian Kasper signs million-dollar contract with Detroit

The “Entry Level Contract” lasts three years and is worth $950.000 per season. Kasper was drafted last week in the first round by Detroit in eighth position, only Thomas Vanek in 2003, number five, was drafted higher as an Austrian. However, by signing the contract, Kasper has no certainty that he will play for the traditional club in the NHL in the coming season. The early signing date can of course be interpreted as a good sign. The contract he has now signed is a typical standard contract for young players. The contract automatically comes into force when Kasper plays his tenth NHL game for the Red Wings. If this is not the case, the validity of the document is automatically extended by one year until the 18/2025 season due to Kasper's age of only 26. Kasper's salary consists of a base sum of $855.000 and a signing bonus of $95.000. It is possible, however, that the fourth Austrian first-round draft pick will still be used for Detroit's farm team or, as was recently the case, for the Swedish top club Rögle, before his first appearance with the eleven-time Stanley Cup winner. There he impressed, as he did in the ÖEHV national team. Kasper won the Champions Hockey League The son of former ÖEHV team defender Peter Kasper scored seven goals and four assists in the regular season for Rögle in the league, added three goals and assists each in the play-off and contributed six scorer points to the triumph in the Champions Hockey League. He also showed in the spring at the World Cup in Finland in the Austrian national team that he can assert himself against experienced NHL players. Since the entry-level contract with Detroit was signed so quickly and before the start of the coming season, the KAC can look forward to training compensation. According to the latest information from Klagenfurt, this amounts to a six-figure sum.

Austrian Kasper signs million-dollar contract with Detroit
