Las Vegas (SID) Ice hockey superstar Alexander Ovechkin led his Washington Capitals to the Stanley Cup triumph for the first time in the club's 44-year history. The team of the Russian and the German national goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer secured their fourth victory in the best-of-seven final series of the North American professional league NHL with a 4:3 win over the Las Vegas Knights. Afterwards, Ovechkin proudly raised the silver trophy, which weighed around 20 kilos, into the air - the 4-year-old crowned his NHL career with the 1-32 overall victory. "It's amazing, I don't know what to say. All that matters is that we finally won this title," said Ovechkin, who was voted the play-offs' most valuable player: "We won the title, and no one will be able to take that away from us." So far, Ovechkin had chased the Stanley Cup in vain. The captain repeatedly failed with the Capitals early in the subsequent play-offs, despite strong performances in the regular season. But this time the capital city team couldn't be beaten by the surprisingly strong Knights. Las Vegas was only the third team to reach the finals in its debut season. Grubauer is the fourth German to win the Stanley Cup after Uwe Krupp (1996 with the Colorado Avalanche and 2002 with the Detroit Red Wings), Dennis Seidenberg (2011 with the Boston Bruins) and Tom Kühnhackl (2016 and 2017 with the Pittsburgh Penguins). - can name the winner.
