Tampa wins rematch of the Stanley Cup Final

The Tampa Bay Lightning also won the second edition of the Stanley Cup Final last season. The team from Florida defeated defending champion Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday in the National Hockey League (NHL) 4:3 after a penalty shootout. Tampa star Steven Stamkos scored the only goal in the shootout. Last week, last year's defeated finalist won 5-0 at home against the champions.

Tampa is in second place in the Atlantic Division with 72 points from 53 games behind the Boston Bruins. Colorado has to fight for a place in the play-offs as third in the Central Division in the NHL West. The team from Denver won the final series of the previous season 4-2. It was the third NHL title in club history for the Avalanche after 1996 and 2001.

One day after his gala performance against the Calgary Flames, German national ice hockey player Tim Stützle shone again in the NHL. On Tuesday, the 21-year-old striker contributed a goal and an assist to his Ottawa Senators' 3-2 (0-0, 1-1, 1-1) away win after a penalty shootout against the New York Islanders.

Stützle scored at the end of the second period to make it 1-1 and prepared the 2-1 lead at the start of the third period. This means that Stützle has 49 goals to his name after 24 appearances this season. And the Viersen native was also successful in the penalty shootout. Despite their 26th win of the season, the playoff places are currently out of reach for the Senators.
