Italian Cup: Luca Ansoldi shoots Ritten Sport into paradise

Ritten had to do without the injured Eric Johansson and Alex Tauferer in the final, but defender David Urquhart returned to the team. Thomas Erlacher, who has recovered from his flu, was surprisingly back in the Puster team, while the long-term injured Oberrauch, McLeod and Tauber took their seats in the stands. The around 2000 spectators created a great atmosphere, half of whom came from Brunico to support their team. For the first time in four years, two South Tyrolean teams faced each other in the Italian Cup final: Back then, too, HC Pustertal had prevailed against Ritten in the Bolzano ice wave.

Ritten started the match very offensively and also had the first good opportunity with Emanuel Scelfo, but goalkeeper Aubin was able to save. Coach Rob Wilson offered newcomer Rissmiller in the first block with Nelson and Siddall. The most dangerous action, however, came from the home team's third block with Thomas Spinell, who narrowly missed the rebound after a shot from Urquhart. The goal was in the air and then came in the 7.57:1 minute. Daccordo saw the unmarked Dan Tudin, who let Aubin get out and made it 0-1. After the opening goal, the Rittners were unable to take advantage of a double majority (penalties against Crepaz and Aubin). The “Wolves” did better, equalizing to 1-XNUMX in a power play with Armin Hofer two minutes before the third break (Rampazzo was in the penalty box). The Puster defender converted a pass from Scandella directly.

Pustertal takes command

In the middle third, Pustertal took command. Mike Busniuk's team increased the pace and Ritten could no longer keep up. The guests took the lead for the first time in the 22.52 minute. Scandella passed in the middle to Dennis McCauley, who used his thigh to send the puck into Mason's goal. Immediately afterwards, Crepaz missed the possible 3-1 after a shot from Bona. The third goal came in the 33.37 minute. The Pusterers were in the majority when Soderstroem passed McCauley in front of the goal and he gave Chris Mason no chance. A very strong performance from the Pusterers in the middle third, Ritten couldn't hold back.

In the final third the home team found their way back into the game. Pustertal tried to seal the result, but when Scandella had to go to the penalty box, Luca Ansoldi shortened the score to 2:3 with a hammer shot in the power play. Suddenly the match was exciting again and Ritten's comeback was rewarded in the 52nd 09th minute when “Lollo” Daccordo luckily netted the puck into the Pusterer goal. Ritten then tried to finally close the bag, but failed because of Aubin. Both teams went into overtime.

This was hard to beat in terms of tension. First, the home team missed two huge chances with Siddall and Rissmiller. On the other side, O'Marra had the winning goal on his stick, Mason was able to save with a brilliant save. Both teams went at a hellish pace, with two seconds before the end of the game Ansoldi was denied by Aubin. But it was Ansoldi who led the Rittners to victory. He was the only one to score a penalty.

Italian Cup: Luca Ansoldi shoots Ritten Sport into paradise

The Rittner Buam won the Italian Cup final against Wolves Fiat Professional 4:3 after a penalty shootout on Sunday and thus took the title to the high plateau. Luca Ansoldi converted the decisive penalty. The Wolves were 3-1 ahead after two thirds, but had to be caught up in the final third.
