Italian Cup Renault Trucks Trophy 2013: Pustertal reaches the final

In what was probably the most important game of the season so far, Pusterer found their way back to winning ways against Asiago. The Wolves confirm the team that lost the derby against Ritten in Klobenstein just two days ago. In attack, Coach Busniuk had to do without the long-term injured Oberrauch, McLeod and Tauber as well as Thomas Erlacher. However, the new Italo Marc Zanette celebrated his debut with the Italian champions, while DeVergilio and Benetti were missing. Bentivoglio returned to the team and was used by Parco in the first block with Ulmer and DiDomenico.

Both teams set a high pace from the start. Pustertal found the first chance: Asiago lost the puck in attack, McCauley immediately started the counterattack, but then missed just in front of Marozzi. The guests responded immediately with the “new guy” Eric Zanette, who, however, shot just wide. In the 13th minute, Ulmer initiated a counterattack, Bentivoglio took it straight away, but Aubin outdid himself and defended. Immediately afterwards, Bentivoglio tried to have the advantage, but again Aubin was the last stop. But Hofer missed the best opportunity in the starting third and his shot stuck on the post.

The middle third began with a penalty against goalkeeper Aubin. Ulmer played Bentivoglio free, the Puster goalkeeper saved with a brilliant save. Afterwards, Asiago was unable to use three power plays. When Campbel returned to the ice from the penalty box, he grabbed the puck and sent McCauley on the counterattack, which the 28-year-old American completed to make it 1-0. Shortly before the second period break, Armin Helfer even missed the 2-0.

Second goal, which came immediately after the restart. Borgatello's shot on the power play couldn't hold on to Marozzi and McCauley scored to make it 2-0. The encounter seemed to be decided, but Asiago didn't give up and came close again in the 44th minute. Dan Sullivan reduced the score to 1:2 after a wonderful pass from Borrelli. The guests then threw everything forward, but Pustertal defended itself cleverly. 90 seconds before the end of the game, Parco took goalkeeper Marozzi off the ice for a sixth skater. At the same time, Scandella also had to go into the cooler, so six Asiago players stormed against four Pusterers. A few seconds before the end of the game, Ryan O'Marra captured the puck and hit the empty Asiago goal to make the final score 3-1. The Pusterers are now in the final and Asiago can go home again.
