Italian Cup: Valpellice wins the “pot” for the first time

The final act of the Italian Cup took place on Sunday evening at the PalaTazzoli in Turin in front of an impressive crowd. As far as the rosters of the two final participants were concerned, there were no changes compared to Saturday: Valpellice was missing the long-term injured Paul Baier in defense, while Alleghe was able to play fully.

The first third started with a bang, as Brodie Dupont delivered an excellent pass to Rob Sirianni, who initially hit the post but then netted for the third time in this final tournament. Alleghe found it difficult to keep up with the high rhythm of the club from Piedmont. Nevertheless, Jeff Lo Vecchio had a good opportunity, but his shot was too central. In the final phase of the first period, Valpellice slowed down a little from this game. Alleghe benefited from this and now took the reins into his own hands. The reward in the 15th minute: Alberto Fontanive was quickest to switch after a commotion and equalize. Almost immediately, Valpellice took the lead again. First, captain Brodie Dupont overcame the bewildered Adam Dennis with a slap shot from the blue line, before Florian Runer even increased the score to 3-1 for the Piedmontese.

Valpellice seamlessly continued the pressure phase of the first half in the middle third and scored another early goal. After 49 seconds, Rob Sirianni scored with a remarkable diagonal shot to make it 4-1. The game seemed to be going in a certain direction. A little later, Rocco tried a powerful shot, but Parise was on target. Valpellice didn't let Alleghe's attacking efforts bother him and made it 5-1 a short time later. Once again the unstoppable Rob Sirianni was there, turning the “PalaTazzoli” stadium into a madhouse with a backhand shot. Alleghe made it 71:2 5 seconds before the second siren thanks to Vince Rocco and was rewarded for his fighting spirit.

There was hope again in the final third when Alleghe, with a double majority, reduced the lead to 3:5. After just 36 seconds, Lo Vecchio deflected a shot so that Parise could no longer parry it. Alleghe now threw everything into the balance, but Valpellice skillfully managed the puck in the neutral zone and allowed little to nothing. The strength of both teams slowly dwindled. In the final phase, Sirianni initially missed a top-class shot before he scored into Alleghe's empty goal to make it 6:3. Matteo Mondon Marin made a cosmetic impression with the 7:3 result before the celebration of the new cup winners knew no bounds.

The final of the Italian Cup on Sunday evening in the PalaTazzoli in Turin took place without South Tyrolean participation after the semi-final defeats of Ritten and Pustertal. Valpellice beat Alleghe 7-3. The outstanding player was Rob Sirianni, who netted four times in the final alone.
