Italy's national teams are looking forward to the World Championships

After fourth place last year at the home World Cup in Asiago, the Italian women's national team is attacking again in Poland next day. It starts on Saturday against Latvia, followed by duels with Slovakia, Poland, China and Kazakhstan. "The players are highly motivated. They know that we can take on any opponent and make it into the top three," said Coach Liberatore before the opening match.

Laying the foundation for staying in the league in South Tyrol

While the women compete in the 1st Division, Group B, the men are represented in the absolute world elite. This place has to be defended at the World Championships in Cologne and Paris from January 5th to 21st. To ensure that this difficult undertaking is successful, coach Stefan Mair initiated the preparation phase early. After an initial training camp in Eppan, he asked 30 players to the next two preparatory camps in Neumarkt (until April 23rd) and Brixen (April 25th to May 2nd), during which a total of five test matches would be played.

First, the Azzurri will face Austria twice, followed by games against Kazakhstan, Slovenia and the USA. Immediately after the duel against the US boys in Milan, the trip goes to Cologne, where the Mair team will play their first World Cup game against Slovakia on May 6th in the Lanxess Arena. Afterwards there will be meetings with Russia (May 7th), Latvia (May 9th), USA (May 10th), Sweden (May 12th), Germany (May 13th) and Denmark (May 15th).

"I deliberately use a lot of players in preparation so that I can take the best possible squad with me to Cologne in good shape. Around two thirds of them will end up in the World Cup squad. The rest will be filled up by the players who are with their clubs will still be in action in the playoffs," explains Stefan Mair.
