Now there is no turning back: HC Bozen plays EBEL!

The summer theater about the sporting future of HC Bozen is over. Now the club from the South Tyrolean state capital is facing the next challenge. A competitive squad must be put together as quickly as possible, both for the Champions League and the EBEL championship. The CHL opening match against Turku is scheduled for August 22nd. It was a difficult decision, but as always, managing director Dieter Knoll had the last word. He gave the green light after the meeting between HC Bozen and the EBEL leadership in Vienna, which was primarily about the distribution of TV money. The foreign clubs are already getting a piece of the cake, next season the contribution to Bozen and Co will increase. This was one of the main concerns of the HCB club management.

Knoll: “Financial problems remain, but we are competitive” “The agreement with the EBEL in no way means that all of HC Bozen’s economic and financial difficulties will be eliminated with the stroke of a pen,” says Dieter Knoll. “In addition to the willingness of existing sponsors, there were also – at least verbal promises – new potential partners. They give us that minimum of security to be able to tackle another season.”

The HCB patron wants to quickly make up for the gap to the other teams when it comes to squad planning: “We are fully aware of the time problems. Nevertheless, I am convinced that I can send a good team into the race, even with the help of the excellent local players.”

At the same time, Knoll says a playoff place is the goal for the season. Mario Simioni will be primarily responsible for the sporting management in the future. His commitment has not yet been confirmed by the club, but the experienced coach is said to have already reached an agreement with the HCB. As do the majority of the players. Sources close to the club report that around 80% of the team squad has already been decided. The first training session in the ice wave is planned for August 4th. Until then, the transfer news surrounding HC Bozen will probably be overwhelming again - as was always the case in previous years. Fans may forgive the months of uncertainty and silence...

Now it's fixed: After the last and decisive night meeting, the HCB club management confirmed that the White-Reds will take part in the international Erste Bank Ice Hockey League and the Champions League in the coming season. The team is already 80% strong and Mario Simioni has been hired as coach.
