Young “Azzurri” take on top Russian team

The “Azzurri” go into the game against the Russian team as clear outsiders. The team from Siberia, which is filled with numerous top stars, was Russian champion in 2004 - and in each of the past three years it has ended in the playoff quarter-finals.

Avangard Omsk was already on the ice on Thursday as part of a test match in Füssen. There was a 1:3 defeat against league rivals Vityaz Podolsk. Vityaz is the club that Italy will meet twice in Brixen next week.

The national coach called up a very young Italian squad for the friendly games against the two KHL clubs. Mair deliberately gave numerous regular players a break and wants to give many young hopefuls the chance in the three games to recommend themselves for further roles in the national team. The “Azzurri” have been preparing for the three games since Monday.
